There are numerous words of Packaging Designwhich recur often and which give us an idea of how vast and complex, but at the same time fascinating, this sector is that unites Design, search, designgraphic arts, creativity and communication.
Some particular terms form a glossary related to the packaging and which are important to know. It is not an exhaustive and complete glossary, but it certainly offers a general overview from which to start any subsequent in-depth study.

Envelope

It is the generic term used to define the various packaging rectangular to contain solids and, in many cases, vacuum-packed food products. In the world of packagingthere is a whole range of product types that use envelopes as containers, ranging from shopper for groceries to special bags for frozen food.

Closing

The word indicates the various systems with which one can close hermetically the various containers and can be: caps, lids, sealing capsules, made of different materials, usually metal or plastic or, as with wine, cork.

Bottle

Speaking of wine, but examples span thousands of different products, the bottle is certainly the quintessential container for liquids.
Usually the bottles are made of glass or plastic or PetThey have a cylindrical shape that narrows at the apex into an opening with various finishes, allowing the use of different types of closures; just think of the cork or screw cap.

Can

Made of steel or aluminium, it is a special type of packaging of various sizes, usually cylindrical in shape, consisting of three separate pieces, a body, a
bottom and a lid, most often with an 'easy open' system, i.e. which can be opened without any tools.

Can

Different from the can is the can, cylindrical in shape, a airtightnessmade of aluminium or steel. The term 'can' is derived from the first material
used to make it: tin-plated iron plate. Usually the can has various sizes, smaller if it is to contain ready-to-drink drinks, larger if it is to contain edible or other oils.

Case and Blister

It is a box of various shapes, standard size or made to hold a specific object, made from cardboard and a variety of other materials, such as plastic or wood.
Different is the Blisterconsisting of two pieces, with the base made of paper, cardboard, plastic or aluminium. An element, usually made of plastic, of a different shape depending on the product it is to contain, is then applied to this base. It is usually used to display items that are difficult to showcase or for which single-serving packaging is required.

Dispenser and tube

It is one of the systems that revolutionised the packaging design of the last 30 years: a system for regulating the dispensing of a fluid or liquid, which has proved very useful in the pharmaceutical and cosmetics trade, as well as in the food industry.
The tube is a cylindrical-shaped container made of aluminium or laminated plastic, with one end flattened and the other fitted with a cap, useful for containing pasty substances such as creams, toothpastes, paints or medicines.

Tub

Used mainly in the food packaging, is a container without a lid, made of plastic and/or cardboard, usually wrapped with protective film after being filled is
wrapped in protective plastic film.

Box

Perhaps this is the most generic term used in the packaging designas it can indicate a wide range of containers equipped with lidin various shapes and sizes. Boxes can be made of many materials, depending on the type of product they contain, such as cardboard, plastic, wood and metal.

Display and pallets

The display has a dual function: to packaging e container of the product, as well as presentation for the for sale. It is usually made of cardboard and allows for important customisation of the product.

Wrapping

In packaging design wrapping is a foil that wraps a product without sealing it, mainly used in the food packaging or in the cosmetics sector.
