Like every year theIndustrial Design Association awards the oldest and most prestigious industrial design prize in the world, the Compasso d'Oro. Now in its 25th edition, the aim is to reward and enhance the quality of Italian design. This year's theme was the presence of design in everyone's everyday life.

Impressive numbers were recorded again this year: more than 1,200 candidate products, 283 products submitted to the international jury, 56 Honourable Mentions and 16 award winners, over 11 Compasso d'Oro lifetime achievement awards and 3 Targa Giovani prizes for university students.

The award ceremony took place in the beautiful setting of the Sforzesco Castle in Milan.

Compasso d'Oro Award: the winners

Among the 16 winners we find very different products: for example, the Discovery hanging lamp by Artemide designed by Ernesto Gismondi, the Eclipse tapware by Studiocharlie for Boffi, the Origami radiator by Alberto Meda for Tubes Radiatori, the Vibram Furoshiki footwear The Wrapping Sole, the Skillmill equipment by Technogym, the 'Leonardiana' museum installation by Migliore+Servetto Architetti Associati and the Prada Foundation in Milan designed by OMA, but also the new Giulia sedan by Alfa Romeo, Osa the boiler that furnishes by Unical or the transparent bill by Enel. A flood of ideas and a true success story of Italian design.

The 11 awards Compasso d'Oro lifetime achievement prizes were awarded to Ernesto Gismondi, Adolfo Guzzini (iGuzzini), Giovanna Mazzocchi (Editoriale Domus), Giuliano Molineri (Giugiaro Design), fashion designer Nanni Strada, architects and designers Donato D'Urbino and Paolo Lomazzi, designer Angelo Cortesi, Giovanni Anzani, Alberto Spinelli and Aldo Spinelli (Poliform), Zeev Aram, Chris Bangle, Milton Glaser. They were joined by international awards to car-designer Chris Bangle, designer and founder of the Aram brand, Zeev Aram, and graphic designer Milton Glaser.

Among the young people, the three prize-winners are Jari Lunghi with "Charon"a three-year degree thesis from the University of the Republic of San Marino, Andrea Matteo Valensin with "Emergency desalinator"thesis from the Milan Polytechnic School of Design and Ludovica Zengiaro with "Rocky"a Master's thesis from the School of Design at the Politecnico di Milano.

After the ceremony, the exhibition (open until 26 June) where the Compassi d'Oro and the 56 honourable mentions proclaimed will be displayed was opened.
