In Melbourne comes the design weekTen days of events, big names, workshops, book fair: a major project that aims to place the city among the design capitals of the world.
The initiative is promoted by the National Gallery of Victoria in collaboration with the Government of Victoria and the Department of Contemporary Design and Architecture.
The event will be held from 16 to 26 March 2017 in the beautiful Australian land with a vast and rich programme. There will be expert talks, architecture tours, exhibitions and events scattered throughout the city: from galleries and museums to bars and warehouses.
More than 100 exhibitors will be present and the event will close with speeches by Guillermo Parada e Tamara Pèreze Sanoval by gt2p, a Chilean firm experienced in experiment-based research in technological and digital processes.
DESIGN VALUE
The theme chosen for 2017 is Design Value, with the aim of reflecting on the real value of design and its field of application: from economics to health, from science to ecology and technology.
In short, a new way of conceiving the role of design as an element capable of linking creativity with business and technology with communities.
Martin Foley, Minister for Creative Industries, commented: "The MDW will explore the value that design can and should bring to Victoria - to our lives, community, business and industry. [...] It is, in essence, about applying creative thinking and bringing it closer to all aspects of our society".
While Tony Ellwood, director of NGV, said: 'MDW 2017 is the first of four annual programmes we curate, which will reinforce Melbourne's reputation as a city full of design and architecture, capable of attracting a creative and diverse audience with some of the most innovative projects from around the world".
