“If bees disappeared from the face of the earth, man would only have four years of life left.a". He would have written it Albert Einstein less than a century ago, looking at the risk of bee extinctions. Today, a young American student, looking at the same danger, comes up with an extraordinary idea. Small, light and made of plastic: the bee-shaped mini-drone designed by designer Anna Haldewang is capable of reproducing the pollination process. Designed against the risk of extinction of certain bee species, it is a state-of-the-art prototype that has amazed half the world.
The Plan Bee drone
Unique in its kind, Plan Bee is a mini-drone that is controlled by a smart device, circling from flower to flower and carrying out the pollination process just like a real bee. Before arriving at the final prototype, Anna designed at least 50 of them.
The drone is constructed of a plastic, lightweight material with propellers on top.
Instead, the body of the drone is divided into six parts with small holes at the bottom that suck the
pollen as soon as it is placed on the flower.
Then the drone, just as a bee would, blows the pollen by flying over the other plants. "I wanted to give the impression of a bee, without exactly replicating the insect'., said the student in an interview with CNN.
"I would love to see people using it in their yards and even create their own gardens with Plan Bee" said the young creative whose wish is to see it also used in the educational sphere to show children live how nature lives.
It is currently still in the prototype stage, but has already been patented and the young designer hopes to launch it on the market within two years.
