It had its world premiere at the Dubai Boat Show a vessel that promises to shake up the nautical sector: Foilera 9.45-metre yacht capable of flying over the water. Equipped with foils mounted under the keel, it is capable of rising up to one and a half metres above the sea surface, travelling at 40 knots and accommodating eight people on board. The boat was designed by Enata Marine, the nautical division of the UAE hi-tech giant, which has already played a leading role with this solution on sailing catamarans built to meet the demands of wealthy owners.
The foils, both retractable, are made of carbon fibre, a production in which the company specialises, to ensure the boat is both light and rigid. When treading water at high speed, the two hydrofoils reduce water resistance by allowing the hull to rise.
This technology, applied on a motor boat, allows to reduce fuel consumption by 20% compared to a normal boat with a traditional planing hull, decrease vibrations while improving passenger stability, reduce environmental impact, and increase the range by up to 130 miles (with 300 litres of fuel in the tank). Furthermore, according to the designers, the hull is capable of reducing impact with waves up to two metres high.
Foiler is equipped with a hybrid system engine with two 320 hp BMW turbodiesels each, capable of reaching a maximum speed of 40 knots. All this is complemented by an electric system that reduces consumption and emissions. Through the "full electric mode" Foiler is able to sail for ten minutes at a speed of less than ten knots.
In terms of design, Foiler has a sleek silver line with an inverted prow (i.e. the lower part stretches out over the water while the upper part is much further back) and red wings.
It has not yet been announced by Enata Marine the price of this super flying yacht.
