A giant tree made of 881,470 coloured bricks. This is how Legoland Japan paid tribute to the anniversary of the cherry blossomone of the most eagerly awaited events for Japanese citizens and tourists who flock to the country at this time of year.
The blossoming of the cherry trees is called hanamiwhich literally means 'looking at flowers', indicating the custom the Japanese have of enjoying the beauty of this time of year. It is a fascinating occasion that has become iconic.
The toy manufacturer Lago therefore decided to celebrate the occasion with a huge, bizarre cherry tree made entirely of bricks.
The impact is unique and scenic, and has rightfully entered among the i Guinness World Records.
The mast was designed and built by a team from the Czech RepublicMore than 6,700 man-hours were spent designing and assembling the cherry tree, which stands 4.38 metres high, 5.42 metres long and 4.93 metres wide, weighs 3,333 kilograms and contains 881,470 coloured Lego bricks.
To illuminate the work, a series of lanterns, also made of LEGOplaced inside. The sakura (cherry blossom) tree surprised and fascinated all the tourists in the Miniland section, where it remained until 6 May.
