  • Reusable contactless cups - Costa Coffee presented the 'Clever Cup', a reusable cup that integrates Barclaycard's contactless payment technology. In this way, customers can buy directly with the cup or track payments, for example. This is a way to incentivise the use of reusable coffee containers, in line with Costa Coffee's commitment to relaunch its range of reusable cups and to recycle more than 500 million take-away cups by 2020. Packaging also seen as a vehicle for Corporate Social Responsibility.
  • Zero waste and zero plastic grocery bags - One of the most sorely felt issues in recent years is the enormous amount of plastic that is blanketing the planet, prompting consumers to look for alternatives to safeguard our earth. These include food bags designed by Agooday, which are plastic-free, collapsible, flexible, heat-resistant, waterproof and allow direct contact with food. A 'zero waste' design.
  • Naturally fermented containers - From the fermentation of microbial cellulose and the creation of a symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeasts comes 'From Peel to Peel', an eco-packaging solution designed by Emma Sicher that creates disposable bags based on bacteria and yeasts. The material is derived from fruit and vegetable waste, which also guarantees different colour varieties to the final product.

  • Away with plastic beer rings, here are biodegradable straws - A new packaging design, made of completely recyclable and biodegradable cardboard. This is the one announced by Guinness for the multi-can pack that, from summer 2020, will replace plastic rings, reducing the use of this material by more than 400 tonnes per year. The same goes for the Corona brand which, in collaboration with Parley for the Oceans, has created the new 6-can packs. Stora Enso and start-up Sulapac presented biodegradable straws made from a bio-composite material consisting of natural woods and binders, which can easily decompose once disposed of.
