The future of car design according to Rolls Royce: Vision Next

Index

Quindi non stupisce più di tanto sapere che lo storico marchio inglese, oggi di proprietà del gruppo BMW, ha messo a punto un artificial intelligence system which will act not only as driver but also from butlerbeing able to manage all the connectivity of the car and the passengers' devices. All the owner has to do to reach his destination is to sit on the sofa and tell the system the desired address, and the car will do the rest.
They call it Eleanor (named after the model who posed for the creation of the famous figurine that adorns the bonnet of the Rolls) and transforms the car into a real travelling lounge with all the comforts, including giant Oled screens and a minibar. All comforts minus two: the steering wheel and the dashboardwhich Eleanor has rendered obsolete and useless.
But what is most surprising about the working prototype of the Vision Next is the car design. The company's in-house department, under the command of Giles Taylor, has succeeded perfectly in combining the brand's classic stylistic features with 21st century futuristic style. La Vision Next translates an innovative and courageous design freedom into reality, so much so that the photos of the prototype presentation almost look like renderings. The innovation content is such that it looks like a thesis project of some car design student rather than the latest model of one of the world's oldest car manufacturers. A freedom made possible by the technical architecture based on the concept of full electricwhich allows the bulky masses (the batteries) to be concentrated in the car floor, lowering the centre of gravity and strengthening the structure.

N.B.: Electric motors take up so little space that in some low-power models they are placed directly inside the wheels...

But the designers have also indulged in a thousand details that make the experience of travelling (I can no longer call it driving...) in this Rolls Royce of the future truly unique. Entering the car, for example, with the large hinged door on the right that lifts up to reveal the lounge to the passengers; or getting out of the car, with the red LEDs arranged under the frame that illuminate a strip of asphalt giving it the appearance of a red carpet.
The interior of the cockpit is fully customisable and through the fusion of antique and modern reconstructs atimeless atmosphere of luxury. Fine wood panels sit alongside the silk sofa, ivory-coloured like the carpet. Large Oled screens replace the windscreen and side windows. The Vision Next fits perfectly into the new automotive trend that will become dominant in the next decade, adding that extra quid of exclusive luxury that rewards, with refined driving sensations, the elite who can afford to buy this jewel of technology and design.
