With its 1,000 non-native plants and 20,000 varieties and special species, Villa Taranto has bewitched everyone: visitors and critics alike, as an example of a garden with balanced, harmonious architecture, its chromatic calibrations, orderly, geometric paths, small waterfalls and water features alternating with beds of annual plants.

The history of Villa Taranto
The story of Villa Taranto dates back to 1931, when the Scotsman Captain Neil Mc Eacharn purchased the property from the Marquise of Sant'Elia to create an extraordinary English garden that would remind him of his beloved Scotland. After various phases of work, the garden was completed in 1940, shaped over the years according to Captain Mc Eacharn's tastes and reconciling them with a climate, that of Lake Maggiore, which was very particular and very generous.

Today Villa Taranto is a worldwide example of complex and refined garden design and boasts a collection of extremely rare botanical species. Among its most significant works are the 'Valletta', an irrigation system with water pumped directly from Lake Maggiore, the Winter Garden, the Marsh Garden and the Terraced Gardens, filled with small waterfalls, a swimming pool and pools with water lilies and lotus flowers.
