Cantiere Riva: The new yachts of a historic Italian nautical brand

Index

The Riva shipyard, founded in 1842 on the western shore of Lake Iseo, became a brand known throughout the world thanks to a 1962 model, the Aquarama, a wooden boat with an elegant and sporty design that in a few years would become a true symbol of the Dolce Vita, desired by film stars and crowned heads. The Riva brand remained in the background for a few years, then its entry into the Ferretti Group in 2000 has breathed new life into this highly evocative brand and today the range is as rich and varied as ever. To the 13 models ranging from the re-edition of the Aquarama (in fibreglass, however) to the steel superyachts over 50 metres longare now joined by two more models that push the brand's quality standards even further.

Riva 110

Riva 110

It is the flagship of fibreglass production, a flybridge with an overall length of almost 34 metreswith a maximum beam of over 7 metres. Externally it is characterised by large hull windows with integrated portholes. Internally, however, the distinctive element is a long full-height glazing which stretches along the entire central hall and consists of crystals framed in a stainless steel structure.

The style of the décor is modern and very sophisticated, making one feel the full depth of theinterior yacht design as the Italians understand it. Of note aft is a Ferretti Group proprietary system that was highly successful at the Boat Builder Awards 2016 in Amsterdam. The innovative Submersible Hatch allows the garage hatch to swing open onto the beach, forming a large beach club on the surface of the water, which if necessary can also drop a few tens of centimetres and become a real slipway for the tender and jet ski. From a motoring point of view the Riva 110 is equipped with a pair of MTU thrusters 16V 2000 with over 2600 horsepower each, pushing it up to a top speed of 26 knots.

Riva 56

It is a new boat concept that can be seen both as a day cruiser and as a yacht for longer cruises. the advanced windscreen shortens the foredeck and makes the aft area much larger and more liveable, benefiting the sunbathing area and of a way of understanding life on a boat that is more oriented towards open spaces and connection with the sea, defined by those in the industry as "Mediterranean style". The interior consists of a master cabin amidships and a second guest cabin (with en-suite bathroom, of course) kitchen, dinette and crew cabin with independent access. The Riva 56 includes two levels of motorisationA pair of MAN engines with 1000 horsepower each, or one with 1200 horsepower. For a maximum speed (in the second case) of 36 knots and a cruising speed of 32 knots. But beware of the autonomy, the tanks allow a maximum of sailing for 260 nautical miles. Which is not really a big limitation, since in the Mediterranean islands with a fuel dock are almost everywhere.

Both models will make their official debut in spring and arise from the collaboration between Officina Italiana Design, the Ferretti Group's engineering department and the group's Product Strategic Commette.
