The work is by Ruins Studio and the project is nothing short of extraordinary: a18th century farmhouse turns into a modern solar-powered residence.
It belongs to a trend particularly in vogue in the UK, that of converting farmhouses into modern homes.
The idea of this farm transformed into a luxury home is from the architects Nathanael Dorent and Lily Jenckswho worked together to transform what was a building destined to be abandoned into a contemporary home with all the most efficient comforts. For this project of theirs, the two professionals were awarded several design awards for agritourism such as the prestigious RIAS/RIBA in Scotland.
Located in the Scottish countryside, the brand new residence is a true jewel of architecture and designwhich perfectly synthesises past and present.
The farmhouse still retains its old-world charm in its stone exterior, combining the old elements of the existing structure with a modern pitched roof, reminiscent of Scottish colonial residential buildings.
The interior has curved walls, reproducing the shape of a cave, while where there were openings in the original masonry, windows were inserted. The modernity of the structure is also given by the fact that it uses solar energy to power itself. A true masterpiece overlooking the fascinating Scottish moors, the result of an accurate study of recovery and harmonisation between past and present, with an eye to the future.
