Smart turns 20 - The city car par excellence is celebrating its birthday with a new limited edition series called "20th anniversary“.
The smallest car ever, from the German car manufacturer of the group Daimler AG (also owner of the trade mark Mercedes-Benz), revolutionised the car market in the last 20 years, with more than half a million cars sold in Italy and more than 2 million worldwide. In addition to the particularity of size, Smart was the first electric car of the Italians, the first to enter the world of car sharing through the "car2go"and, finally, the first to be sold online via smartFORstore. A brand that puts innovation at the heart of its mission: the near future sees Smart committed to becoming an all-electric brand by 2020, and the launch of services such as "ready to park"the parking app, and "ready to share"the private car sharing service.
The origins of the Smart
The project Smartacronym for Swatch Mercedes ARTis the brainchild of Nicolas Hayelthe inventor of watches Swatchwho wanted a small, electric and shareable car. Years of studies previously initiated by an employee of the Daimler had not seen the light, but the intervention of the visionary Hayek gave birth to the 'smart' project carried out by the newly formed company Micro Compact Car AG. The partnership with Swatch soon ended, however, becoming wholly owned by the group Daimler.
Smart turns 20: comfort, sportiness and infotainment for the '20th anniversary' series
These are the main features of the new limited edition of Smart. Many innovations such as the Active Brake Assistthe package LED&Sensor with lights that follow the curve radius, the comfort package, the sports package with a lowered trim and the Cool&Media. But the news does not end there: SmartIn order to emphasise the car's sporty character, it has been fitted with a chrome exhaust tailpipe, a three-spoke multifunction leather steering wheel, steel pedals and 8-spoke 16″ alloy wheels.
A brand that has made history in 20 years and aims to write it again.
