Garden design in Sydney and the most significant example that comes to mind is the Royal Botanic Gardens in the heart of the Australian metropolis.
With an area of 30 hectares, some 8900 plant species and 4000 trees, the park is visited annually by more than 3.5 million people.
A break in nature offered by a true masterpiece of garden design, located near the famous and beautiful Opera House.

The history of the Royal Botanic Gardens: the oldest park in history

The history of the park dates back to 1816: on the site where the Wollemi Pine the 'dinosaur plant' also known as the 'living fossil', the first tree of the Royal Botanic Gardens of Sydney. With over 200 years of history behind it, the park is undoubtedly one of the oldest in the country's history, an important botanic and scientific centre.
The first aviary inside was opened in 1860 and later the Royal Botanic Gardens have been home to other animal species as well as plants.
The park now contains around 400 varieties of grapes from Europe, a monumental fountain dedicated to Governor Philip, a insectariumwith activities by researchers for the study of plant diseases.
Among the various spaces the park presents are: the Rose Gardenthe Tropical Centre, l'Herb Garden, l'HSBC Oriental Garden and the Rare and Threatened Plants Garden.
