A Las VegasExactly at 3970 Spencer Street, there is a seemingly normal-looking cottage, especially when viewed from the outside. The classic home of a well-to-do American family. Inside it, however, is hidden a spectacular bomb shelterat a depth of 8 metres, whose entrance door is located inside the house itself.
The bomb shelter is 1410 square metres in size and can accommodate an entire family for a year without the need for other supplies.
The building dates back to 1978, constructed at the behest of the wealthy Girard B. Henderson eager to secure a safe and comfortable refuge in the event of an atomic conflict, which was very likely in the period of the Cold War.
Very aesthetically pleasing, so much so that it is more beautiful than the outdoor villa, the shelter is furnished in an elegant, modern style and has a wooded garden with a swimming pool. To avoid psychophysical discomfort resulting from living underground, daily life in the sunlight has been simulated as much as possible, so much so that it feels like living under the open sky thanks to the presence of adjustable lights that simulate the different phases of the day.
The refuge is equipped with every comfort: there is a whirlpool, sauna, dance floor, natural scenery, bar and barbecue.
Fortunately for them, the Henderson never had a chance to use this hidden refuge.
