The design is an enormous resource of Milan's cultural heritage: places such as the Spazio Rossana Orlandi, the Prada Foundation or Corso Como 10 are symbols of the various declinations of the language of this sector, which are also increasingly accessible to non-specialists. Among the main spaces dedicated to this world is the Design Library of Via Savona: innovative and original, it is the first library entirely dedicated to design nationwide. The layout is based on the enhancement and usability of the library heritage, but the concept of the environment also envisages a convivial and welcoming place for meeting and exchange, for study and in-depth study, enriched and made comfortable by the best technologies and a careful study of colours and lighting. Also innovative are the activities promoted with "Design Thursdays"informal evenings where major international designers talk about their experiences, where their style and creative spirit are confronted with the production capacity of companies, research and the market, to create cutting-edge products.
An internationally renowned event set in the capital is the Milan Design Weekin April, in conjunction with the well-known home and furniture fair "International Furniture Fair', numerous appointments and exhibitions are organised in the city for the curious in the sector. On those days, Milan comes alive in a special way and the dense network of meetings, exhibitions and initiatives on creativity takes place in showrooms, bars and picturesque places all over the city.
In the same days as Milan Design Week, the city has another beating heart: the area around the Bosco Verticale and the space of the Stecca bring together numerous debates, presentations and activities, creating at the Isola Design District. During these days, the Isola district is transformed into a veritable landscape of possibilities; in fact, the events that animate this event aim to offer visibility to designers but also to address issues and promote activities: in particular, biomaterials, upcycling, slow production and consumption are the main topics of the latest editions.
Among the noteworthy reports is the Milan Design market, a showcase within the Milan Design Week where the emerging designers have the opportunity to present their creations, as well as an ideal place where people and companies can come into contact. Between objects and products of young talents and revolutionary materials, the project represents a real breakthrough opportunity for all those designers who live in the shadows by creating a human-scale exhibition space.
