The history of the design and the culture of nightclub in an exhibition covering over 55 years of the history of the nightclubs. It is called "Night Fever. Designign Club Culture 1960-Today"the photographic representation that will be visible at Vita Design Museum in Basel, Germany, from 17 March to 9 September 2018.

Culture pop centre stage, but always passing through the design of the structures that have attracted hundreds of thousands of young people over the years. Since the 1960s, at the height of the social revolution and rebellion that characterised most teenagers, especially overseas. They gathered to express a state of mind with their bodies, in premises where real works of art created through the careful eye of masters of graphics and light, design and fashion stood out. All to give space to those who often went unheard.

Among the nightclubs Italian the legendary Studio 54whose track was also trodden by the genius of Andy Warholbut not only. The exhibition also features New York subculture venues, such as theElectric Circusdesigned by the architect Charles Forberg and the famous firm Chermayeff & Geismar. A conceptthe latter, which has made history, having managed to influence other European realities, such as the Space Electronic of Florence.

The exhibition Night Fever has been extensively illustrated with interior photos, posters, flyers, nightlife protagonists and their fashion, in such a way as to take the viewers on a fascinating journey through subcultures and worlds glamour. Besides furniture, models and fashion, the exhibition includes rare film documents, musical examples, graphic design and contemporary positions by artists and photographers.

From the 1960s to the legendary 1970s, when disco music took off, a genre from which cinematic masterpieces such as Saturday Night Fever. Because, as well exposed by the film, the dancefloor acquired new life by giving individuals or couples the opportunity to experiment with new movements, some of which have entered the history of disco music.

At the same time, nightclubs such as the Mudd Club or the Area in New York, merging nightlife and art, offered new opportunities to young emerging artists: it was on this scene that the career of Keith Haring e Jean-Michel Basquiat. Meanwhile, in the early 1980s in Manchester, architect and designer Ben Kelly designed a cathedral of post-industrial rave, the Haçienda. From here began the period of acid house, a sub-genre of house. At the beginning of the new century, club culture seems to have taken on a new life, like that which characterised the club nights of the 1960s. Global music brands and festivals are being pushed out of urban contexts while a new generation of architects is again confronting the nightclub typology.

Night Fever is a story to be discovered, a journey that can also be seen backwards, in which the history of music is retraced through the design of architects who gave young people the world's most famous places to dance.
