Lamborghini Terzo Millennio: the car of the future

New arrival in the house Lamborghini: the company of Sant'Agata Bolognese presented the new concept Lamborghini Third Millennium (see here), a prototype that tries to anticipate the technologies on which cars of the future will be based.
For this concept, the Lamborghini Style Centreled by Mitja Borkert, made use of the valuable collaboration of two laboratories of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The objective of Lamborghini is to dictate the requirements of the third millennium with regard to energy savings and innovative materials, in order to chart its own course within the electric super sports car sector.
The concept Lamborghini Third Millennium is based on four pillars: energy, material innovation, car and powertrain architecture, sound and emotion.

Power supply for the Lamborghini Terzo Millennio

The new bolide abandons petrol power. Through the use of electrical systemsthe focus is on kinetic energy recovery and the generation of huge power peaks. The symmetrical, power-oriented storage system guarantees high performance and the highest possible energy recovery. Conventional batteries, however, are not suitable for this purpose, Lamborghini wants to develop an innovative supercapacitor that can bridge the gap with current batteries and provide extraordinary power density.

Lamborghini Terzo Millennio exploits nanomaterial technology

Nanocarriers in carbon fibre panels. This is the innovation concerning the materials that make up the car's body and components: to store electrical energy, the Lamborghini Third Millennium will perfect nanomaterial technology. In addition, the project will use the technology to monitor the entire structure in CFK and report cracks and damage, carrying out a self-diagnosis. Once the problem is identified, the system starts a self-repair process by sending chemical compounds that heal the fractures and prevent further damage to the structure.

Vehicle and powertrain architecture

The possibility of power supply via cables, offered by electrically driven systems, has prompted Lamborghini generated torque directly at the wheels, increasing the power density of the electric motor located inside them. This makes it possible to reach the level required by a super sports car with all-wheel drive and to control the weight of unsprung masses.

Sound and emotion

The thrill of driving a Lamborghini will remain the same, perfectly in line with the carmaker's style. A thorough investigation will also be carried out to assess how best to exploit the electric propulsion system in terms of the sound of the Third Millennium.
