The lighting project in lighting design: all aspects involved.

Index

A lighting design at Lighting Design includes many aspects not only photometric but also ergonomic, energetic and design-oriented. Above all, it is a project that must ensure the right balance between natural and artificial light, it must be functional to the customer's needs, and it must offer maximum visual comfort throughout the room.
The lighting design has, in fact, the task of enhancing through light the architecture of the rooms, the furnishings, the materials, must make the spaces cosy and convey emotions, as well as meeting certain functional requirements.

Realising a lighting design: what is needed.

To realise a lighting design project it is essential to be familiar with and to know how to use the various planning software that exists today, which allows you to simulate the lighting conditions in a spaceas well as giving an accurate preview of how light behaves 'in contact' with various surfaces.
Within the software, you will need to enter data on the environment, namely:

  1. ceiling height
  2. reflection coefficients
  3. surfaces to be illuminated

After that, the instrument can:

  • calculate the average illuminance value (Lux) and the maximum and minimum surface values
  • represent illuminance with colour variations
  • check illuminance point by point.

The stages of a lighting project.

The lighting calculation and the layout are the two fundamental stages of a lighting project. Besides these, other aspects must also be considered, such as architectural aspects, the style of the furniture, the type of activity for which the environment is intended.

Also important, and not of secondary importance, is the creative contribution of the lighting designer, that will allow the project to have that originality, that unique signature, as well as ensuring that all work is consistent with the initial objective and the needs of both the target audience and the brand.

The factors to be taken into account in a lighting design are:

  1. Kelvin degrees (K), which indicate the temperature of light
  2. Lx (Lux) the unit of measurement for illuminance, understood as the amount of light or luminous flux impinging on an area or surface.

Standards to ensure sufficient lighting.

There are specific rules to take into account when realises a lighting design project:

  • at least 500 lux for sales areas
  • at least 250 for waiting and passage areas
  • at least 120 for storage areas, as per UNI-EN 12464-1 for Interior Lighting Requirements.
