Among the prestigious partnerships that IDI is proud to announce today is the one with Guido Levi Lighting Lab (GLLL). And it is on the occasion of this extraordinary news that IDI informs its students of the opportunity to participate in the next edition of the GLLL25a unique workshop that allows young people aspiring lighting designers to prove themselves in a highly professional and innovative environment.
What is the Guido Levi Lighting Lab?
The Guido Levi Lighting Lab was established to continue the artistic and professional legacy of Guido Levi, a leading figure in the field of theatre lighting design. Levi has dedicated his career to the promotion of light as an expressive and narrative tool, contributing to the realisation of avant-garde shows since the 1970s and 1980s, as demonstrated by his involvement in the Cantiere Internazionale d'Arte di Montepulciano.
The GLLL Associationfounded in his honour, pursues its mission: to train new generations of technicians and lighting designers through a field experience reminiscent of the traditional workshop. The #GuidoLeviLab project is not a simple internship or training coursebut a real debut on the stage, in which participants work closely with professionals for the creation of the lighting design of a show.
The initiative is aimed at young under-30 aspiring lighting designers, offering them a unique opportunity in Italy: to realise their own lighting project for a scheduled show. The project is aimed at students, recent graduates, diploma holders and self-taught, selected on merit, with the objective of fostering their entry into the professional world of lighting design. Fundamental partners of the initiative are theatres, festivals and cultural spaces, which provide the ideal context for experimenting and applying theory to practice. Each year one to three candidates are chosen, who may work on different shows or collaborate on a single shared project, depending on the agreements with artistic directions. The association supports participants by providing qualified tutors, technical assistance and, when possible, a financial contribution towards expenses. Partners are required to be available for experimentation, as well as to provide food, accommodation and insurance cover for candidates during the period of work. At the end of the experience, young talents receive an evaluation of their workThey acquire contacts and build a professional network for the future. Organisation and timing are determined according to the specifics of each show and the availability of the partners involved.
