Specialization course in Lighting Design

Lighting Design is at the same time the science and the art of illuminating environments, whether artificial or natural. The Lighting Designer deals with lighting design trying to best harmonize his work with the architecture and the surrounding furniture. It also takes care of the protection of the artistic and cultural heritage and seeks sustainable solutions with low environmental impact and reduced energy consumption. He is a professional who must have an excellent knowledge of the physical characteristics of light, lighting control techniques and instruments, as well as knowledge of the aesthetics of the sources.
In recent years, the figure of the Lighting Designer has become of fundamental importance for any interior design project and not: the experience, know-how and expertise of the Lighting Designer are used not only as regards the plant engineering, but also in the service of communication: just think of theatrical or museum environments, where light is fundamental for the construction of the overall image and the success of the event itself.

  • Silvio De Ponte Conti
    Silvio De Ponte Conti Architect and Lighting Designer

    Silvio De Ponte Conti is the founder of De Ponte Studio Architects. He graduated in Architecture at the University of Florence and worked for several years in theater as a set designer, collaborating with several international companies and numerous directors, including Giorgio Strehler. During this experience he acquires the knowledge and skilful use of light that he transfers to his interior design projects. In 1987 he attended the Domus Academy in Milan (Master in Urban Scenography) and from '90 to' 94 he worked with Pierluigi Cerri at the Gregotti Associati in Milan, where he was responsible for the interior design and design area. In his research work, the study and methodological analysis of materials, the relationship between light and matter and the language of light and color, with the aim of defining new scenarios of living and industrial space, is of fundamental importance.

  • Alexander Bellman
    Alexander Bellman Architect and Lighting Designer

    He graduated in Architecture at the Politecnico di Milano and soon specialized in Lighting Design and technologies dedicated to it. Animated by the desire to "draw light", he was among the first to experiment with virtual calculation models for the simulation of light effects. He founded the C14 group, a team composed of architects, designers, graphic designers and multimedia designers, specialized in the exploration of lighting technology and its uses in architecture and design (custom-made solutions for the retail, hospitality and exhibit fields). The lighting calculation models for the Milan Cathedral and for Piazza della Scala are worth him the prize for the best innovation intervention at the EVA 2001 Florence international conference, dedicated to the visual arts for the enhancement of cultural heritage. Lecturer in Lighting Design at the IULM University, he did teaching activities at the Milan Polytechnic. He collaborates with the LUNA University of Bologna.

  • Claudia Giacomobello
    Claudia Giacomobello Lighting Designer

    Founder of the Savetheclock design studio, Claudia Giacomobello graduated in Industrial Design at the Milan Polytechnic. From 2005 he deals with design and lighting design collaborating with Polliceilluminazione Srl. His activity is characterized by incessant interdisciplinary research and by the continuous comparison with different realities, in order to draw important stimuli and develop specific skills: for this reason his projects ranging from retail lighting to the lighting of private residences and especially to buildings belonging to our national cultural heritage. He has participated in numerous competitions in Italy and abroad, also winning major awards. Alongside his activity, he teaches in various design schools. In the 2013 with other colleagues he founded the Italian Lighting Design Group.

  • Giovanni Liotta
    Giovanni Liotta Lighting Designer

    Graduated in Industrial Design at the Milan Polytechnic, Giovanni Liotta works with 2002 in Product Design and Industrial Design related to lighting. From 2002 to 2013 he worked in the Forcolini.Lab studio collaborating with Carlo Forcolini and Giancarlo Fassina; from the 2007 to the 2009 he also joined the Thomas Berloffa Design studio, working on projects and cultural events of Design at the international level. In the 2008 he founded the Savetheclock Studio. Winner of several Design awards, he combines his professional activity with that of teaching at several schools in the sector. In the 2013 he founded together with other colleagues the Italian Lighting Design Group.
