CONTRA Padel, an emerging leader in padel technology and equipment, has announced a new partnership with theItalian Design Institute (IDI). This collaboration aims to redefine the activewear and sportswear industry by involving emerging talents in the creative and production process.

An innovative ecosystem: CONTRA's vision Padel

Founded with the aim of revolutionising the way padel is played and experienced, CONTRA Padel stands out for its pioneering mission: to create an ecosystem that integrates technological innovation, advanced analytics and community engagement. Through the PadelPulse platform and its smart rackets, the company turns every match into an opportunity for measurable improvement.

"For us, padel is the perfect intersection of sport and technology, where data and performance come together to elevate the experience of every player, from beginner to professional," says the team at CONTRA Padel.

The partnership with IDI: a unique opportunity for emerging designers

Collaboration with Italian Design Institute offers students of the Specialisation Course in Activewear Design direct access to the fast-growing sector padel growth. Students will have the opportunity to work on real projects, developing technical garments that combine functionality and aesthetics.

How did CONTRA Padel come about and what is its main mission in the padel world?

CONTRA Padel was created to revolutionise the way padel is played, measured and experienced. In the landscape of an apparently saturated market, we identified a fundamental void: the absence of a true integration between technology and performance.

Our mission goes beyond just manufacturing equipment. We are creating an ecosystem that combines hardware innovation, advanced analytics and community engagement. Through our PadelPulse platform and smart racquets, we turn every match into an opportunity for measurable improvement.

For us, padel is the perfect intersection of sport and technology, where data and performance come together to elevate the experience of every player, from beginner to professional.

Product innovation: How does CONTRA Padel integrate technological innovation into the design and production of its sports equipment?

Our innovation has two main fronts:

PadelPulse platform

- Real-Time Performance Analytics

- AI-based automatic matchmaking

- Integrated community for players, coaches and clubs

- Tracking system that turns every racket into a smart tool

Advanced Materials

- Kevlar: material with 5 times the strength of steel

- Anti-vibration technology: use of specific materials to reduce vibrations from the racquet to the forearm

- Integrated sensors for performance tracking

- Optimised design through AI simulations

Trends in Activewear: What are the current trends in sportswear design and how does CONTRA Padel incorporate them into its products?

Trends in activewear evolve rapidly, combining functionality, comfort and style. Today's consumers are looking for fabrics that are light, breathable and absorb sweat quickly, but without sacrificing design. Our garments respond to these needs: made from Quick Dry fabric, they ensure comfort during training and matches, while their design echoes the aesthetics of our rackets, offering a professional, eye-catching look. Our aim is to create clothing that transcends padel: garments suitable not only for sports training, but also for everyday life in a casual context, perfect for those who enjoy a dynamic and modern lifestyle.

What initiatives has CONTRA Padel undertaken to promote environmental sustainability in the production of its products?

Racket

Accidentally hitting a partner's racket, glass or the court's metal grid with the racket is an everyday situation in padel. A paddle made of high-quality materials, such as Kevlar, is designed to withstand even these game dynamics, ensuring a longer lifespan than standard materials. This means that a well-built racket can accompany the player for many more months, reducing the need for frequent replacements. This approach not only improves the playing experience, but also promotes a more conscious purchase, reducing excessive consumption of resources. On the contrary, a racquet of inferior quality is likely to deteriorate quickly: structural cracks and loss of performance may become apparent after only a few matches. This not only generates frustration on the part of the customer who sees his purchase already ruined, but also automatically causes more waste, which also translates into a higher cost in the long run. For this reason, we will continue to invest in sustainable and durable materials, because we believe that innovation should serve not only the players, but also the environment.

Balls

When it comes to sustainability, padel balls represent one of the biggest challenges. Consumption is considerable: an amateur player uses the same three balls for up to two matches, which generates a lot of waste. Finding alternative materials that are truly sustainable and guarantee the same performance is not an immediate process, but we at CONTRA Padel we are doing our part. We have been working to develop an innovative felt that extends the life of our balls, allowing players to use them for longer without compromising the quality of the game. In addition, we are exploring partnerships with benefit companies to give used balls a second life. The goal is to recover and transform them, reducing the overall environmental impact and creating a virtuous cycle in line with our sustainability values. For us, every step towards greater environmental awareness is important, and we will continue to innovate to offer products that respect the game and the planet.

How have athletes and padel enthusiasts reacted to CONTRA Padel's products? Challenges What are the main challenges CONTRA Padel expects to face in the near future and how does it intend to overcome them?

The response of athletes and padel enthusiasts to our products has been enthusiastic and motivating. Players appreciate the quality and durability of our paddles, as well as the attention to detail in the design and the combination of innovation and performance. Our flagship model, the Kevlar Collision Master, has received excellent feedback for its power and durability, standing out for its ability to cope with intense pace of play without compromising performance. Our apparel line, designed to combine comfort, functionality and style, has also received great feedback, making players proud to wear garments that represent their sport and our brand.

Our main challenges focus on:

a. Technological Scalability

- PadelPulse Infrastructure Expansion

- Integration of new AI features

- Optimisation of matchmaking systems

- Integration of computer vision for advanced analysis

We see the future of padel as increasingly tech-enabled, where data drives performance improvement and community engagement. CONTRA Padel is positioned to drive this transformation by combining innovative hardware, intelligent software and a deep understanding of players' needs.

Advice for Emerging Designers: What advice would you give to young designers aspiring to specialise in activewear?

Perhaps as never before, the board: 'Let's put ourselves in the customer's shoes' is tailor-made for young designers. What we often notice is the lack of certain details that could make the garments not only aesthetically beautiful, but also truly functional. A concrete example concerns a common problem during the summer months: sweaty palms that compromise grip on the racket. A Spanish brand has found an interesting solution by integrating a patented microfibre fabric into the side of trousers and skirts. This detail allows players to dry their hands easily, guaranteeing a secure grip in all conditions. It is a simple, yet extremely effective idea that demonstrates real attention to consumer needs. This is just one example of how we can turn a problem into an opportunity if we immerse ourselves in the passion and needs of our customers. The key is to listen to them and observe the way they experience sport, because often the best ideas for innovation come from there.

How does CONTRA Padel see the padel and sportswear market evolving in the coming years?

The padel market is growing rapidly and we see a future increasingly oriented towards technological and sustainable products. In thesportswearWe envisage the integration of smart fabrics and sensors to monitor not only athletes' performance, such as speed and positioning on the pitch, but also their health, e.g. heart rate and posture. At the same time, sustainability will play a key role: innovative and durable materials, combined with  eco-friendly solutionswill be at the centre of consumers' choices.  CONTRA Padel wants to lead this evolution, offering products that combine technology, design and respect for the environment.

What does the partnership with IDI consist of and what could it mean for the students on your course?

The partnership between CONTRA Padel and the Italian Design Institute (IDI) represents a strategic synergy aimed at innovating and surprising the activewear sector, with a special focus on padel, a fast-growing sport. This collaboration offers students at the IDI Specialisation Course in Activewear Design the opportunity to immerse themselves in real projects, developing technical garments that combine functionality and aesthetics. For the students, this means being able to actively participate in the creative and production process of padel-specific sportswear. The collaboration with CONTRA Padel enables students to face real challenges by responding to the needs of a rapidly expanding market. In Italy, for example, the number of padel courts has reached 9,000 in almost 3,500 facilities for a total of 1,500,000 passing players, turning the sport into a national phenomenon. A specialisation in activewear design with a focus on padel can open the door to promising new business opportunities.
