Interior car design: the 5 top models

N.B.: Obviously, we have not considered extra-luxury or super-sports cars, because when you pay that kind of money for a car, that it also has a cool interior is the bare minimum...

Honda Civic. Awarded as Car of the Year 2016 by the online magazine Autoguide.com, the reasons for the award include the quality of interior design. Highlights include a 10-speaker audio system; a dynamic low-frequency noise suppression system; and a convenient stowage space layout that is roomy but visually unobtrusive. For a car that starts at 20 thousand euro not bad at all.

Nissan Maxima. A three-box saloon created especially for the US market, it boasts a high quality construction and finish unsuspected for a car in this market segment. The theme of the interior is 'Liquid Chrome', a striking metal finish. The steering wheel cut in two colours is finished with elegant contrast stitching. The front seats are exceptionally comfortable and theelegant alcantara design adds an extra touch of style. Starting at $33,000.

Volvo XC90. Great substance and quality design: these two typically Swedish characteristics are immediately noticeable when entering the cabin of this SUV for the first time. The number of buttons has been reduced to a bare minimum, leaving a clean-cut feeling. The two-level centre console conveys a sense of elegant efficiency. Beautiful speedometer and rev counter, which sport a truly successful design. The shape of the headrests has an almost hypnotic effect.

Nissan Murano. The 2015 model has received unanimous acclaim from all the trade magazines, and the reason for such acclaim is obvious. It is a true sculpture that flows fluidly around the drivercombining materials and colours in an innovative and elegant way. But it is not just a question of shapes, the interior design is designed to be completely user-oriented and all the controls are practical and intuitive. In short, Nissan engineers have succeeded in turning a road trip into a memorable experience.

Audi TTS. The main shortcoming of this car is the size of the cabin, which makes those over six feet tall suffer. Audi's interior designers have therefore done a great job of formal simplificationemptying all surfaces and leaving a sense of spaciousness. The integrated buttons and climate controls are cleverly positioned. The air vents are reminiscent of jet turbines. The door panels feature a sophisticated interplay of surfaces, volumes, materials and colours. Everything in this interior speaks of performance and elegance.
