Bad car design: 3 cars that luckily didn't make history

A volte letteralmente.

Scripps Bi Autogo

La Bi-Autogo was a prototype auto-moto built in 1913 in Detroit by artist and engineer James Scripps Booth. In addition to the two classic 37-inch wooden wheels the vehicle had two small retractable wheels close to the rear axle which prevented the vehicle from falling to the side. 45 hp liquid-cooled V8 enginethree seats and a total weight of 1500 kg, for one of the ugliest vehicles in the history of automotive design.

Dymaxion

La Dymaxion was born with the idea of creating something completely new for the automotive industry. Its creator, theUS architect Buckminster FullerHe realised it using all the inheritance he had received and succeeded in presenting it on an important stage: the1933 Chicago World's Fair. The idea was to transfer the solutions adopted in aeronautics to the automotive world. The car had two front-wheel drive and one rear-wheel steer. Rear V8 engine. Drop-shaped sheet-metal bodywork, about 6 metres long, with 11 seats inside. Three examples were made. In the manufacturer's intentions the car was to achieve a record speed, for the time, of 160 km/hbut above 80 there were serious problems with stability and road holding. Still today it arouses looks of admiration and perplexity at some historic car rallies in the USA.

Reliant Regal

La Reliant Regal was a three-wheeler that was launched on the British market in 1953. It had a wooden chassis and bodywork made of aluminium panels (later replaced by counter-moulded fibreglass). It was 3.4 m long and 1.5 m wide, powered by a 600 cc and 25 hp engine. Thanks to its light weight (less than 500 kg) it could reach 110 km/h, but it was better not to dare so much, especially on mixed roads, because the brakes were not so good and the car was let's say a bit unstable when cornering. The next model, the Reliant Robin, was incredibly produced until 2002setting an original record: it was the only car with which Stig, the TopGear test driverhas ever rolled over.
