World-renowned interior designers
Answering this question, which we are frequently asked by our students, is not easy. So rich and varied is the current international design scene that drawing up a ranking that is impervious to criticism and negative comments becomes an arduous task. Consulting the most accredited web information sources, including the prestigious DesignmagHowever, we can point to six undisputed masters, the ones that anyone would mention, leaving the other four names that would make up this ideal top ten to the enthusiasts.
Philippe Starck
The first is the French Philippe Starck, born in 1949, considered a celebrity of contemporary design. At only 20 years of age he was art director of Pierre Cardin and has designed some of the most beautiful hotels in the world. As part of theinterior design invented the famous Gun Collectiona series of lamps made for FLOS. He has won prestigious awards such as theDesign Oscars and Industrial Design Grand Prix.
Marcel Wanders
Marcel Wanders is the Dutch founder of the conceptual movement Droog Designwhich gave rise to highly original furniture and industrial design based on clear, yet ironic and nonsensical concepts; a new philosophy of design on nonsense. Marcel Wanders has also collaborated with some big brands such as Alessi, Puma and Swarovski and was the creator of the Monster Chair and the Knotted Chairwhich is a seat made of hand-knotted carbon fibre rope, treated with resin. Today his works are exhibited at the MoMa New York, at Vitra Design Museum in Germany, the Museum of Modern Art in San Francisco and the Stedelijk Museum of Amsterdam.
Matthew Thun
Italian and among the world's most famous designers è Matthew Thun, winner of the Compasso d'Oro and featured in the Interior Fame Hall in New York. He has worked for such prestigious brands as Illy, Philips, Missoni, Porsche Design, Coca Cola, Campari, Villeroy & Boch, Lavazza and many others.
Oki Sato
A sustainable armchair made from waste from the garment industry: this is the Cabbage Chair and this is the most famous work of the Japanese interior designer Oki Satoa true interior design artist, creator of Studio Nendo (we spoke about it also here). Little more than 30 years old, for interpretative originality, prolificacy and versatility of application, he is certainly the most promising of his generation, the most serious candidate for the role of most influential designer of the 21st century.
Karim Rashid
Canadian is Karim Rashid, a designer with over 2000 works that are internationally appreciated for their eccentricity and the cosmopolitan soul that envelops them all. His projects are numerous and embrace different fields such as lighting, furniture, fashion and art. His are the famous sofas Superblob made and the Butterfly chairs.
Ross Lovegrove
A style that is harmony and synergy between technology and sculpture is that of one of the world's most famous designers, Ross Lovegroveaward-winning artist, who has created designs for Apple, Sony and Olympus. His are also the Go plastic chairs for Bernhardt Design.
