What they say about us: testimonials from IDI alumni

Questa è l’intervista che Jade Starec, a student of the Master in Interior Design held in Milan in July 2014, kindly released to us.

Good morning Giada, tell us something about yourself: what studies did you do before the Master's degree and why did you choose this training path?

Before my Master's degree, I attended the 'Max Fabiani' Technical Institute for Surveyors in Trieste. It was also this course of study that later led me to choose this training path in interior design. I have never been great at freehand drawing, I have always preferred technical drawing. I chose to participate in IDI's Master's programme first of all to enrich my personal cultural background, and then I have always been fascinated by the attention to detail, the combination of colours and styles, the variety of materials that can be used, and the transformation and concretisation of fantasy into something real.

What are the most important things our Master left you?

It was a wonderful experience, first of all because I was confronted with a reality that I had never known up close. I was able to learn the trade from professionals who passed on to me a great passion for this work. Moreover, since I deal with the real estate market every day, Interior Design is a professional field that I wanted to deepen, since besides being a lot of fun it is also very promising for my future. In fact, since completing my Master's degree I have already had two interior design projects for flats.

What plans do you have for the future?

I don't have any specific plans, to tell you the truth, I would like to work abroad, yes. My family has southern origins so it is very large. As fate would have it, one of my cousins is an architect working in Dubai as an interior designer. Dubai is a city in constant evolution and construction, it is teeming with skyscrapers and people there surround themselves with unbridled luxury. To begin with, my cousin offered me to participate in some of his project work. This is one of the avenues I might take in the future.

What were the key elements in achieving your professional goal?

Definitely stubbornness and determination to achieve my goals. I wanted to become a Surveyor and so I did. I wanted to specialise in the field of Real Estate Valuations and so I did. I wanted to become an Interior Designer and I succeeded in that too.

Would you recommend your Master's degree to other young people?

Yes, I highly recommend it, especially for those who have done technical training. With this Master you learn to express yourself, it is fun, it challenges you and it can give you very interesting professional opportunities.

What does realising your aspiration represent for you right now?

It represents a great deal of personal satisfaction, but also a valuable business and economic opportunity.

Advice to all young people preparing to become interior designers?

My advice is not to be afraid, never feel inferior to others, be committed to your work, always be professional, honest and above all polite. Even if you often have to deal with rude or impolite clients, never give up and never get demoralised.

Thank you Giada, with this drive and determination we are sure that in a few years we will not miss hearing about your dazzling career as an interior designer.
